Long Weekend - Happy Birthday Canada!

What a great weekend! Mom is here for a visit and we are having a pretty good time. Some work and lots of relaxing. This weekend was the big deck building weekend. Dan tore out the old deck and Friday was spent prepping the supports and attaching the brackets so we could attach the cedar decking from below. Mom and I spent most of the day doing prep and cleanup (two truckloads of refuse to the dump!) as well as just puttering around tidying up the yard. I helped Dan as much as I could with the deck but later in the day, once he started putting the flooring down, he worked better on his own. The floor of the deck looks amazing and the smell….mmmm…cedar. Now its just working on the railings. We had thought about dropping a hot tub into the deck but changed our minds…we just werent sure we would use it enough to justify the cost and besides there are so many more other things we can spend the money on…like a steam room in the basement….

Sunday I had Dragon Boat steering clinic to attend. It was a great morning. I spent most of the time paddling while others took turns steering…I got a great workout and my arms and legs are a little stiff today. I did get some steering time as well and I think I did pretty good. I was quite pleased with how I brought the boat into the dock at the end of the practice and everyone congratulated me on a smooth finish into the dock. I sure am getting excited about the races in August, I never thought this could be so much fun and I think I will join a club so that I can get more practice for next year as well.

It was a beautiful weekend, nice to see the sun and spend some time outside.
