GoodBye Simon

Today our little fish Simon died. He was a beta (Siamese fighting fish) and a beautiful blue and purple colour. Dan and I brought him home from a friends wedding we attended a couple years ago. They had betas in bowls as centerpieces. His first night at home I think he used up all of his lives except one. Freya, our cat, wanted to know what was in the bowl on the counter, so she was messing around with it and dumped it on the floor. We were all in the living room when we heard a lour crash. Hanna jumped off the couch barking and ran into the kitchen chasing Freya away. I ran in afterwards and Dan followed and there was Simon lying on the floor, we were sure he was dead. Dan grabbed a cup and went to pick him up when he started flipping around. Dan scooped him up while I grabbed some water and we quickly got him back in an aquatic environment again. What an introduction to our family. That was just short of two years ago and he has been happily swimming in his dish on our counter ever since. Last year Dan’s mom bought him a beautiful vase and a peace lily. We set Simon up in his new home with his new plant and he was happy as could be. He was pretty smart and knew when it was feeding time and if you listened closely you could hear him crunching on his food pellets. You will be missed Simon.
