Weekend Retrospective

Friday night we went to the Hockey game. The Calgary Flames were playing the Colorado Avalanche. It was a pretty good game I must say. The best part had to be when a few people in our section, my husband included, noticed that even though Colorado had a penalty they still had five men on the ice…so shouts of “Too Many Men!” ensued from these very observant fans (including Dan). Unfortunately they failed to notice, until another fan in our section pointed it out, that Colorado had pulled their goalie. It was sweet, these boys were just looking out for their team.

On Saturday Dan and I undertook the task of finding new fancy door handles for our home. You can’t do renos and keep the same old 1980’s door handles. So we visited several stores around town. Dan and I both came to one very accurate, very unfortunate conclusion. As much as we want to support our Canadian Rona store it is becoming increasing hard and we find ourselves desiring to shop at the American Home Depot more and more. We tried Rona, we really tried, but your lack of customer service, lack of store quality, and lack of knowledgeable, old enough to work staff don’t leave much for us to go on. And it can’t be said that we didn’t give you as much chance as possible, we visited pretty much all the Rona stores in Calgary and ended up with the same dissatisfaction. We did get our door handles though, very nice, from Home Depot.

Saturday afternoon had to be the highlight of Dan’s day. Hayley Wickenheiser and Cassie Campbell were signing autographs at a Future Shop here in town. For those who don’t know, they were members of the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team who won Silver in Nagano in 1998, Gold in Salt Lake City in 2002 (Dan was there for that game) and Gold in Torino in 2006. Dan brought his Salt Lake City gold medal game tickets and had the girls sign them for him. I went along to take some pictures. He was so excited, I could tell by how much he just chatted after we left the store. It was very cool to see that he got just as giddy when the girls signed his tickets as when he had Jarome Iginla sign them a couple years ago. My husband is such a hockey guy. He is already trying to scope out the best way to get tickets for the games in Vancouver in 2010.

Sunday, we had dinner at Dave and Sandra’s place. They invited a bunch of people over for an early Easter dinner. Dave made a super yummy turkey and delicious cashew stuffing. We filled ourselves full and then helped the kids in an Easter Egg hunt, it was a great way to spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The weather is getting warmer and its just really feeling like spring.
